Default Ynis-Hir RSPB, Wales.

Made my annual spring visit to Ynis-Hir RSPB reserve in Mid Wales yesterday and as usual it was a great day. Had all the usual good birds this top reserve has to offer including Wood Warbler, Pied and Spotted Flycatcher, Redstart, Garden Warbler, Red Kite, Osprey and Cuckoo.
For those who have never been to the reserve it is well worth a visit at this time of year for it's fantastic array of woodland species. There has also been Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and Goshawk spotted this past week.
But for those who can't get to the reserve for one reason or another you can get a good idea of the place from your armchair because it is the base for this years Springwatch programme. All the cables and trucks have already arrived and the place is a hub of activity at the moment.
The programme starts on Monday 30th May on BBC2 at 8 o'clock.

Glad you had a productive visit to Ynis-Hir Jon, you saw some great species! I had a day there early July last year and as yourself can thoroughly recommend the reserve.

I am looking forward to seeing Springwatch this year from Ynis-Hir!

I meant to ask you Jon if the Swallows are nesting in the men's loo as they did last year?

I never noticed any Swallows in the toilets Judith. They sometimes nest in a couple of the hides as well but I didn't see them there either.

Maybe it is a little early for the nesting to start. I remember a couple of hides had Swallows nesting, the wardens had removed a couple of windows for the Swallows to fly in and out of, a nice touch I thought.
