Default North Devon

I will be in Croyde, North Devon next week with an entire day to spend on myself.

Any suggestions?

I'm 51, overweight and think walking is exercise......

I was think more along the lines of somewhere to sit and watch birds after my Full English.

Found a few snippets for you Peter. I haven't birdwatched in this area so I hope they help.
If it's a sunny day you could always sunbathe..then go surfing!, after your brekkie has digested of course!

Bird Watching in North Devon.

birding facts Birding Resources by the Fat Birder for England Devon<BR>

Saunton & Braunton. Taw and Torridge meet at the estuary at Crow Point, and this spot’s popularity with many species of bird and even seals makes it a great destination for bird watchers, walkers and fishermen.

I will put forward a sensible answer once I've had a chance to consult my books. My experience of the area is fairly limited. I've done a bit of walking around Lynton and Lynmouth and the Valley of The Rocks but not since I've been 'really into' birds.

We did a part of the coast path between Hartland Point and Clovelly around this time last year that was mostly notable for thousands of migrating swallows.

For the ultimate in sitting and watching, and if the winds are compliant, you could do a bit of seawatching from one of the headlands in the area? Might be a chance to dust off your scope!

Thanks. I am thinking I should do the sea as I don't get a lot of chance to do that.

My books didn't actually produce very much, but one of them recommends an RSPB woodland reserve Chapel Wood as being good for all three woodpecker species, and one of them mentions that the whole area is part of North Devon VMCA.

For seawatching, I found this which might be useful although its is primarily about dolphins, it does list some close by seawatching spots (Morte Point and Baggy Point).
