Default Stanley Park, Blackpool, Lancashire

Stanley Park Blackpool, Lancashire
After seeing Alan's images, here's a bit more information about Stanley Park and its wildlife for those interested.

Stanley Park is a masterpiece of landscape design and historical splendour. One of the regions finest parks and voted Blackpool’s most favourite location, the 390 acre park is a landmark in its own right, offering a magical blend of architecture, horticulture and recreation. The naturalised backdrop of woodlands and lakes have an air of tranquillity. The park abounds in wildlife and its features appeal to the wildlife enthusiast.

The lake, surrounded by mature woodland, are both abundant with wildlife. One of the lake's small islands is home each Spring to a Heronry. The Herons start nesting from about February and their young are visible in the nest by April. The lake is also home to Great Crested Grebes. You can also see in Stanley Park Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Treecreepers, Warblers and Goldcrest.

Thanks Neil,

I'd also like to let people know about Marton Mere, a site of special scientific interest at the eastern edge of Blackpool, about 3-4 miles from the sea front.

It hosts around a quarter of the UK's breeding Bittern population and is a winter roost site for Long-eared Owls.
