Default Any ideas for Mull?

Hi Fellow Birders.

I'm for to the Isle of Mull next week for four nights, with all the new lenses (and very little technical nowse) Any tips on good locations?

We are staying at The Isle of Mull Hotel & Spa - Craignure

I am really looking forward to it and intend to take a lot of photos - so don't say I didn't warn you!

Hi There

I have never been to Mull bird watching, but I have sailed into Tobermory a few times on a yacht.
I would recommend a visit to Tobermory Distilery followed by fish and chips, eat them whilst admiring the views over the bay.
Its bound to be wet and dreek for one day whilst your there so have few back up plans.

I believe Mac (aquila 1) has spent alot of time in that area, send him a PM.

Paul

Mull is a fantastic island with a range of species, of caurse most people go to see the white tailed eagles,(I will not go into that on here) but several years ago before these birds arrived, there were 35 pairs of golden Eagles breeding, sadly that is no longer the case.
One of the best places to visit is Loch Na Keal, the southern shore near the gribbon rocks, will produce Golden Eagle, otters and young from may onward, round the steep cliffs to Inch Kenneth island will produce, buzzards, and resident pairs of Perigrine, as you go onward there is a tuning to ballaminuch farm, park car and walk should get some good views towards the farm, and waterfall, look for a clump of bushes, on the cliffe side, carry on passed the wilderness on your right, look out for S.E. owls, Merlin, Harrier, and a good chance of goldie, drop down to loch scridain, scan loch for otters, divers, if your lucky Great Northern divers, also look out for whales, dolphins.
Grasspoint is a good spot, anything could turn up, the road over to Loch Buie, will produce both w.t.e and goldie, buie itself is a fantastic place(it is where they filmed "the eye of the needle" Donald Sutherland, be aware adders basking near the cliffes, and near caves where the fisher men store their gear, Alister Gibson used to live here,he is the only one I know off who has pictures of three young eaglets in the eirie, for several years running, why not ask someone where is son lives, and go ask to see them, tell him mac said hello, before alister died, he gave mew permision to print them in my book, and I have copies all ready, If anyone would like to know more, give me a P.M. as there is over forty years in my head, but I have been printing a lot down. Enjoy the island try to get to know the islanders, not the incommers. best regards Mac P,S the tital means man of Mull

Mull is a fantastic place for birding and you are very lucky to be spending time there. Here is a good website to look at and get an idea of the best places to visit.

Your a bit on the late side with most of the Sea Birds off the colonies, you will see a lot from the ferry if the winds are right. Eagles are on a moult so soaring is restricted, but a great Island for raptors.
