Default Martin Mere Wetland Centre.

I visited Martin Mere Wetland Centre last weekend and over the two days I had some wonderful sightings and also heard some wonderful sounds! Namely thousands of Pink-footed Geese coming in to roost and also a Starling roost! Big numbers of Teal, Wigeon, Mallard, Shelduck, Pintail, Shoveler, Gadwall, Tufted Duck, Pochard, Marsh Harrier, Sparrowhawk were the highlights and a Merlin at Marshside was a treat to see.

I have just read on the WWT website that the closing time has been extended from 4.30pm to 5.30pm for those who wish to view the Starling roost that now has approximately 50,000 Starlings coming in to roost. Viewing is from the Harrier Hide. We viewed the roost from the roadside, a pity the reserve hadn't stayed open later last weekend for the roost. Still good viewing nonetheless.
