Default Evening all

Been lurking for a week or two and now got permission to post, so hi all.

I'm really just getting back in to birding as a hobby, though I've still got my first bird book - The Observers Book of Birds - dated 1958 when I was 10. Since then I've always looked for and identified birds wherever I was, and I've stayed on Skomer Island a time or several, but approaching retirement and a new pair of bins presages more time to be spent pursuing them.

I live near to the WWF place at Martin Mere and the Mere Sands Wood reserve, not to mention the RSPB sites near Southport, so not a bad variety, though where I live is just vast open flat arable farmland and a bit of bird desert. I look forward to learning more from this forum about where to go and what to see.

If I may, I have a question too. My recent acquisition of a pair of Nikon Monarch 10x42 bins has made me review the quality of my venerable Nickel Supra draw tube telescope. I know selection of optics is a highly personal thing, but if I'm going to replace the Nickel Supra I wonder a) whether it's of any value, and b) how likely is it that I'll be able to p/x it? Alternatively I might have it overhauled - the zoom 20x-50x eyepiece seems to be stuck on 25x.

Anyway, enough about me; I'm looking forward to actively joining you all (when I've learned to navigate the forum better...)

Cheers

Tony
