Default Butterflies

On a recent visit to Fife I photographed several species of Butterflies, seems to be a good year for them

ABOVE & BELOW: Common Blue

BELOW: Small Tortoiseshell

BELOW Red Admiral

Really should pay more attention to these wonderful insects

cheers, John

Oh and John, lovely photo's especially of the Common Blue. I took some of one recently and it looks very different on the top of the wings, is the male a lot bluer?

Hi Chrissy, thank for your kind comments on my photo's. The female Common Blue has browner upperwings and look quite different from the males. Some of the males I saw were much paler and worn looking, most likely earlier hatched examples

cheers, John

I did have to wait some time for it to open it's wings, I have more images of the undersides...but a lot browner!
