The Purple Hairstreak is quite widespread in South Cheshire and North Shropshire, I even used to see them flying around oak trees quite close to Crewe town centre. You need to be very patient and best time to look is fro around 4 PM up untilafter 7 PM, and look around the tops of oak trees anywhere, in countryside or in towns even along busy main roads.
