What a good example of how the forum can work!
It certainly is, If it wasn't for Ruth's post I wouldn't have found out until I got home last night. I didn't see it today so would have missed out on photographing the animal, It's a rare chance to get a look at these wonderful deep sea mammals. I would prefer it to be out at sea where it should be though.

cheers, John

Default Whale update 24 Sep 2009, 1150hrs.

As far as I know it's not been seen today, there was a possible sighting from Dunoon but from the description sounded more like a Minke Whale (there have been a few Minke's in the area recently)

cheers, John

The British Divers Marine Life Rescue unit is at the scene to monitor the animal.

It doesn't look good for the animal as one of the unit divers said; it looked as if it hadn't eaten for a while. Here's hoping for a happy outcome

cheers, John
John

I am the Police Wildlife Crime officer and Marine Mammal Medic who has been dealing with the whale since Monday. Would you allow me to send these three images down to British Divers Marine Life Rescue HQ along with my own images? We are trying to catalouge this species and this whale in particular as much as we can for id purposes and the image of the blow hole and length of its back to the dorsal is of particular interest.

Craig
