Default Dragonflies & Damselflies 2017

I managed my first of summer 2017 'decent' image of a Dragonfly yesterday whilst on a woodland walk.

A stunning female Southern Hawker.

Nice dragonfly, been trying to get some pictures of the dragons at Longham but they never settle.

Glad you agree on it being a dragonfly Stuart!
Pointers....too many to go into on here. I use 'The Field Guide to the Dragonflies and Damselflies of Great Britain and Ireland' for my ID's. ISBN 0-953-13990-5

I do not see enough to be certain with ID's from memory.
The field guide has numerous sections which include history, habitats and distribution to name but a few.

Nice capture.

I really like dragonflies, and at this time of the year they're a nice distraction from the birding doldrums (even if migration has started already...).

Patience and lots of it as Emperor dragonflies zapped around one of the pools at Arne the other week meant I finally got a pic:

whereas the Four-Spotted Chasers were more obliging:

Stick with it; even Emperors sit still some time
