I am probably way off the mark as per usual but I wonder if it is a female Goldeneye, Maggie.

Could be, there was a male beyond the float the oyster catchers were on so it could be his female.

Yes a female Goldeneye,well captured Maggie,I saw a lot of these on the river on Sunday.
