Some of us are so bad (and ill-equipped) that we dare not post photographs at all!

Hi John, Yeh its me, been house bound for 2 Months, found this site and here I am. Had a wee bit trouble with passwords, uploading photos ect, so any tips would be great. Finaly got out on Sunday with the Kindness of Kris Gibb and his burd, no forgetting the bairn. Went down for the Semi-P in Northumberland, Had the bird 25ft off me and cant reach the camera button myself, still I needed this bird so thanks to Kris for that.. Nice area and plenty to see, Marsh Harriers had 4 young so that led me to comment on the ID Photos. Dennis is maybe going down again on Friday so he has asked me to go with him so maybe get an Image or 2 in the bag. Take it you have seen the LEGS at Aberlady? Nice bird, Wanted to work more with this Beaut, but the OP,seen to that. Keep in touch

Hi Mike

sorry to hear you are having health problems, at least you are starting to get out and about again, hope you get back to normal soon.

That was nice of Kris to take you down to see the Semipalmated Sandpiper, they're cracking wee birds, his web site has some good images on it, looking forward to see how it progresses.

I'm still not totaly sure about that bird, am hoping to get a look at the original image to see if I can pick out any more detail.

I haven't had a chance to get over and see the Lesser Yellowleg, work and family commitments are conspiring against me

Take care

all the best, John

Alan sent me the full images and i believe it is indeed a juvenile Peregrine (well done Mike ) the bird in the images makes much more sense when you see it in context with rest of image, the wing tip fingers are the result of the downsweep of the wings, the fact only three fingers are visible is consistant with a falcon. It is 100% definately not a Marsh Harrier

cheers, John

Default Juv Peregrine

I thought that or Juv Hobby. I watched a Juv Hobby at Musslburgh last year so it was a toss of the coin but I felt it was not dark enough for Juv Hobby. I, personally, get emailed two or three photos a week to ID which can be a challenge but is fun. So keep the ID images coming in.

PS - I did not find the male pheasant earlier today.

Cheers, Mike.

Hi Mike

Hobby Juveniles do look dark above , they also have a very obvious moustachial streak, the body of the bird in the image is too broad for Hobby and on Hobby the hand of the wing is also longer and narrower, I've never seen a Hobby showing the primary tips so obviously 'fingered' as the bird in the image, which I have seen on Peregrine.

I enjoy ID'ing birds from images, it's certainly more of a challenge when it's other peoples photo's

cheers, John
