Default Female Blackcap?

Just looking for assurance really. I noticed it in the back of the frame of another bird I was snapping. It's my first ever pic of one. (Although it was an accident it will get filed never the less!! )

I would go along with female Blackcap! Nice one!

I am waiting for my pair to return to my garden, though the male never stays for long.

It was about a mile from my home, down a seldom used footpath, a decent sized copse by the railway. There are no people down there except the odd rail workmen. It's teeming with birds and I only discovered it whilst walking Gemma. I need to spend some serious time down there.

ALL, Juv AND 1st Winter Blackcaps have reddish/brown caps, So realisticly there known as female types. Yesterday I had likely 6 Redstarts on the coast and the same goes with them so I had 4x Female type and 2x Adult male because they showed a little of the male head pattern. Sorry to be a bit over the top. See inclosed photo of Pied Flycatcher yesterday, Male or Female???

No, it's not over the top Mike, main reason I'm here for - to learn.

This Pied Flycatcher. Even though the head is typically female I am going with Juvenile Male as the back on the wings is well developed where as at not time the female gets that distinctive a colour.
