Virtually any 'crow' you've seen in the countryside is likely to have been a rook, I would've thought, especially if they were in a flock.

Mike said they are rarish to see this side of the coast, not rarish, just not so easy seeing them, so when I saw them and heard them, I thought, I bet they're not

Happily they are quite common here Maggie,I often hear them flying over the garden.

Hi Maggie, they are localy common in this area, they can be seen at the refuse depot at Dawsholm Park near me, they can also be seen along the Clyde Estuary, Kilpatrick Hills, at old landfill site at back of Cathkin Braes

Those are areas I'm not in or go near John.
I did used to go the depot at Dawsholm when I drove the vehicles for the cleanie but still didn't see any there. I wasn't looking them right enough a that was a few years ago befor I got interested in birding. But what are those BOP on the road to Dawsholm dump?
I have seen them sitting on the wall next to the road waiting for road kills on Balmore Road too.
I didn't mean Mike said they were rare, that ws my wording, he said it was easier to see them on the East Coast. In saying that, I didn't see any today
