Question Common Crossbills?

Are these crossbills? I can't tell in the second pic if it is crossed bill or just a trick of the light and how far away I was?
Was thinking Redpolls too?

Nice one Maggie - I've no idea really, but it certainly looks like the female Crossbill in my book!

Sorry Maggie, they are Lesser Redpoll. Note the white barring on wings and brown barring on flanks, Crossbill wouldnt be feeding on birch buds either

Cheers, John

Thanks John. I thought they would be Redpolls but Lifers for me anyway. They weren't eating anything, just preening and playing about for a minute before scooting off.

Just that bill was making me think...................

Thanks anyway John, still pleased to have seen the Redpolls.
