Default A small owl

Today I saw a very small owl, I thought at first maybe it was a little owl but it was dark brown with yellow tufts that look like ears. I have looked though the books I have but can't see it there nor on the internet, does any one have any ideas?

You've really got me stumped there, there are no European Owls with yellow tufts. The only small European owl with tufts is the Scop's Owl which is a summer migrant and very rare in the UK.

Do you remember any other features of the bird eg; eye colour, any obvious markings, etc.

cheers, John

Question Small owl location

Hi leadingjo,

Can you tell us where you saw it and what sort of habitat?

What time of day did you see this small owl?

A bit more information might help us it's not often John gets stumped!
