I'd take Thrush over Pipit, no eye stripe and size and stance.

Looked way too slender to be a mistle thrush to me

I have a lot to learn.

I have read that the Mistle Thrush is a rare bird in Dubai whereas Song Thrush are common.

It looks pretty thin. Guess it's hard finding food in the rock hard dirt there which the sun bakes.

Just thinking...Was this taken in the hotel grounds which would water the grass?

Yes, near one of the pools. The grounds are very well watered and there is plenty of vegetation and scraps of food. The Bulbul's and Myna were quite tame and would hang around poolside getting fed what was expensive sarnies.

Song Thrush for me. The light is a bit harsh making it look quite greyish, so I can see why Mike suggested Mistle. However, apart from the fact that Mistle would be a vagrant there, I'd expect Mistle to show more pale in the wings than this and more distinct spots on the flanks.
