He has good ID capabilities when it comes to anything I can tell you. I know there is a size difference but the colour is not visible on that pic so I eager to know how he came to that conclusion. Gotta keep learning.

You can make out the heavy barring on the chest the dark cap to the head and heavier underwing markings, all pointing to female. The males are lighter headed and lighter barred on the chest than the female. The males would also lack the strong contrast from the dark head and paler throat. The female also looks proportionately longer winged than the male too. Hope this helps
