That is a level of detail which is going to stay beyond me for some time. No one warned me about plumage variations before I got this bug.

lol,well luckily for both of us Peter upon returning from the village today I noticed another Sparrowhawk on another roof top.....this time as you can see from the plumage it is clearly an adult male......looking in fine fettle too!
I crept too close and he took off dropping behind the hedge before re-appearing and whooshing past me so close that I heard the wind through his feathers,wow.......what an experience and what a view!!!!!

I never get good views (rarely get any!) of sparrowhawks, I am jealous Ruth!!

They seem to like sitting on the roofs on the estate......eyeing up all the small birds that we all feed I spose!

Glad you got a result on the ID Ruth! That male Spawk is a cracker! Well done with the pic but don't get too close next time as he may bite you.lol!!
