Question Kerry Ireland Bird ID

VIA EMAIL

I wonder if you can help me to identify the attached bird image. I took it in southwest kerry ireland.
Do you know this bird?
Also: it was a misty day but the bird seems to be very old or in bad conditions - what do you think?

Looks like a male snow bunting coming into breeding plumage.

They're not really common anywhere but from the RSPB distribution map (google Snow Bunting RSPB) it appears that Kerry is just a bit south of their regular wintering spot on the west coast of Ireland so its probably not that rare there.

However, its a great bird to see - I've never seen one!
