Hi Ruth

from the detail I can see, dark legs, light brown head, chest with only a hint of yellow wash, and apparently blunt tipped wings (altho this feature very blurred) I would go for juv Chiffchaff

Wood Warbler would be yellower brown, slightly plumper bodied and have a deeper notch in it's tail

cheers, John

Thanks very much John,it was the white underneath that made me think WW......I can see from my books now that the WW has a very short tail compared to CC.

Noticed the background, the Hawthorns have done very well this year round here too, the Redwings will be pleased. Last year was also good for Hawthorn so also good for Fieldfare and Redwing on Werneth Low there was flocks in the hundreds.

Had a few Redwings at St ABBS yesterday along with a few Willow warblers and Chiffs aplenty, and a lone Garden Warbler, so they are not far away.

Good can't wait and can't wait for the Waxwings either. I just love the mad dashing of everyone trying to catch them at one location or the other. Was taking photos of Waxwing in Stockport on 30th Dec last year and one of them had been ringed at Allenvale Cemetary, Aberdeen on 11th Nov 2008, and was recorded again at Rendelsham, Suffolk on 4th Jan. They certainly get around dont they.
We've already got Fieldfare a flock of around 20 on Werneth Low.
