Default Redshank or Spotted Redshank?

Which one is it?

It's a redshank.

At this time of year, a spotted redshank would be black with dark legs.

In winter, a spotted redshank would be greyer, taller, and slimmer* than a redshank, and would have a pale eyestripe.

*although unless they're stood together, that wouldn't neccessarily be obvious

At this time of year Spotted Redshank (and all other waders) can be in full summer plumage, full winter plumage (probably mainly second calendar year birds?), or somewhere in between!

Yes - they should really be called "Orangeshanks" shouldn't they! Somehow it doesn't quite have the same ring though.
