Little Ringed Plover and Ringed Plover. (Unless you are throwing an exotic trick at us).

Nice pics as always Mike, didn't think you had that many LRP's up there or have you been using your passport again?

Yeh, got the L.R.P. not to far from home, It did breed earlier in the year, also had another pair that failed. I just thought you would like to compare side by side in near same pose, ( which I was pleased about ) As you say we dont get many in Sunny Scotland. Many find it hard to separate these 2.

Do you reckon they are the same size? I've never seen them together.

And why are they called "Ringed"?

It's the black 'ring' around the neck, I assume, more extensive on the ringed plover than the little ringed plover.

Little ringed plovers, funnily enough, are marginally smaller than ringed plovers. But I've never seen them together either so I'm not sure I could reliably id them by size!

As I suspected Stuart, they should be called Collared Plovers and Yellow Eye Ring Collared Plovers.
