Default ID please

Hi

I've just seen this bird and was wondering what it was - can any of you kind people let me know?

When I originally caught sight of it through some hedges it was perched on a post and by the time I got a view of it, it had flown. Quite reddish brown in colour.

Apologies for the picture quality!

Thanks
Karen

Hi Karen, welcome to the forum. That's a Red Kite.

Default Thanks, Peter

Thanks for the reply, Peter

I was rather hoping it was a Red Kite given the tail shape - but you don't see many round here in Longridge, Lancashire! So I was erring on the side of caution! It's a first for me anyway!

Thanks again!

Default Another shot

Attaching another photo ... do you nice people think it will just be passing through or am I likely to see it again?

Default red kite

Hi Karron lovely shot of a red kite could you see any wing tags or colour darvic rings on the bird, as I do some spotting in north yorkshire for these birds, and it would be nice to think that one of ours had crossed the border, regards mac

If it had crossed the boarder, I hope it doesnt restart the War of the Roses between both of you.

There was nothing obvious that I could see, Aquila 1. I didn't see it for very long I'm afraid and just wanted to get something on film! I'd seen it sat on a post but the hedge was in the way and by the time I got to a viewpoint it had just flown.

Hopefully I might see it again if it stays in the area - but I'm not sure of the likelihood of that!
