On a rock, makes sense. If it were in a Meadow it would be a water and if..... you get the idea.

I am not going to take a stab at ID as I am more often than not wrong.lol!

Thanks for the responses everyone - the top 2 pics were right at the top of a cliff and are heavily cropped, but at the time they appeared greyer and I was hopeful of Rock!

This pic shows the grey a bit better....

Hi you get meadow pipits anywhere not just in fields also rock pipits feeding in fields as you say the legs are wrong for rock. regards mac

No, but Meadow Pipits have paler legs...

A long hind claw is an adaptation that is seen in many species which spend a lot of time on the ground. It tends to be longer on Meadow Pipits than Tree Pipits, but a relatively long hind claw is also seen on many other pipit species - like these Rock Pipits.
