Default Corn Buntings?

Just wanted to be sure, wasn't sure about the dark under wings in flight.

Sorry, a long way off when they landed.

I'd say these are Linnets Peter. The white in the tail and wing clinches it for me. I'll just wait to be shot down though

Thanks, that explains the wing colours.

Don't the males display any red during the winter or are these all female?

I assume that a lot of these birds will be females and first winter birds BUT the males are a lot less red and more brown in winter. The bright red feathers are part of their full breeding plumage.

It also seems to depend on the individual male - have a look at these shots. Both birds were singing males with a several females around them. Both shots were taken at the end of May.

That's confusing.

I just discovered it's a "Parcel" of Linnets. Of all the collective nouns.

That's one that I've never heard before! How did they originally come up with all the different collective nouns?
