Default Mystery bird

Rare visit to garden beneath feeder ... size is smaller than blackbird dlightly bigger than sparrow. Ground feeding, black triangular markings on neck, predominately pale cream with dark stripes on wing with some flacks of brown. Small pointed beak.

Damnit - camera was at work.

It was not a sparrow, redpoll (too long in body to be a redpoll) starling, bramblng (had no reds at all), linnet and was the wrong shape to be a warbler.

Did not have awhite throat.

Reed buntings sometimes visit feeding stations in winter and mostly feed on the ground...

Was bunting shaped though... lol

When you say small pointed beak do you mean fine (like a Dunnock for example) or conical (like a finch)? If the former then Meadow Pipit is all that springs to mind - not typically a garden bird but they do occur occasionally in some gardens.
