Default ID bird song

Hello everyone, this is my first post on the forum. For the record I am a 58 year old male living in north east England. I am interested in wildlife in general but I don't have a great amount of knowledge.

Can you identify this bird? The recording comes from a television programme about a canal trip near Bath and it was filmed in spring. I cut half a dozen clips from the soundtrack and joined them together to make identification easier.

It's a very distinctive call and the bird will probably turn out to be very common, but it is one I have't heard before. I tried to identify it online without success so I would be grateful if someone could tell me what it is.

Sounds like the beginning of Robin song to me - but somewhat drowned out by Mallards.
