Diving fisher

I'd love some help identifying this bird. It was catching small fish like nobody's business on the river. I thought it might be a juvenile, but I've never seen this bird on this stretch of the river.

I too have a diving bird, taken three weeks ago at the see on the north Wales coast.
It was not shy and I got to within ten feet of it. Any ideas to what it is ????Attachment 13456

It would be nice if some indication of size or scale could be given, but the upturned bill, pale underparts and mottled back suggest Red-throated Diver to me.

They're quite common off the western coasts at this time of year, and often very close in and confiding. A couple of years ago one remained on Fairhaven Lake near Blackpool for weeks on end, and didn't seem too phased by passing dogs, people or indeed enthusiastic photographers...

Thanks for that Tony , as for size it was about the size of a large coot

I'm not sure its not another guillemot?

It's a diver for sure, and I'd agree with red-throated. Looks like a juvenile with the smudgy cheeks and neck.
