Default What could it have possibly been?

Hi all, I'm new to Birding UK & Ireland and although I don't go out of my way to go birdwatching I do enjoy birds very much, I know a modest amount and I have seen (I think) quite a variety.

Anyway I was recently in Bulgaria on a coach to Sofia when I saw what I think (and hope) to be a Peregrine perched on a tree at the roadside. The colour of the beak and legs were a startling yellow, the back and the "hood" a slate-grey; larger and more heavily built than a kestrel for sure. If any of you have gone birding in Eastern Europe or have a handy little book on E. European birds, then maybe you could tell me what else I could have possibly confused this bird with? A Goshawk maybe? How can I be sure

Many thanks, I hope to be on this forum regularly.

To be certain about the ID of the bird you would need to have a lot more detail on the bird, structure, tail length compared to wing tips, facial markings, was there barring or streaking on the plumage, etc..do you have any further info on the bird? without proper features to go by, the ID would never be certain

cheers, John
