Default Abu Dhabi - Gulls

These 2 were on the site shoreline this morning. Did a bit of research and I think they are either Caspian or Heuglin's Gulls.

Nice pics Ian.

I have officially given up with gulls. I will try again next year.

If I saw the 1st winter gull in the first shots in the UK I would be inclined to call it a Caspian - but dispite consulting several different books, I would have to say that I'm uncertain whether that would be the best ID in Abu Dhabi.
I'm tempted to suggest that the adult (or near adult) might be a Steppe Gull (sometimes treated as a race of Caspian), but don't hold me to that!.

Cheers Roy. I think even the seasoned birders out here find the ID's of these gulls challenging.

Smart looking gull, what is it? EDIT - Read above and answered my own question. I'll get my coat.

Spotted this gull this morning - enjoying its fish dish. Heuglin's Gull I think, but not certain.

Just done some more research - the white eye crescent and long sloping forehead suggests a Great Black-headed Gull (Pallas's Gull) - had it confirmed, Pallas's Gull, probable 1st winter.

Nice pics. That eye ring is very distinctive.
