Unusual Identification Request - 2006/09/12 10:04 Hello,

This is a rather unusual request as the birds involved are in stained glass.

I'm writing a book on some early 16th Century stained glass windows. The birds I wish to identify are in a scene showing the Creation of Fish and Birds.

I am particularly interested to know not only the identification of all the birds, but if there are any characteristics that can determine if the birds are French or English varieties. The origins of the glass are unknown so any information on this aspect would be of great value.

The individual images (which are numbered) can be seen here:

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks,
jf

Re:Unusual Identification Request - 2006/09/14 08:20 I love posts like this one Digiatlas.

I'm going straight in with my initial thought to get the ball rolling. If I'm absolutely sure I'll say so, otherwise I'm guessing.

1. Pigeon of some kind
2. Ibis
3. Hawk of some kind
4. I'll think about this one. They are very unusual perching birds, so that's a clue.
5. Raven or crow
6. Could do with seeing the head!
7. Geese
8. Coot or Moorhen
9. Chickens
10. Geese - possibly Brent geese
11. Peacock and hen (I'm sure)
12. Swan
14-16. These are'nt birds (I'm sure!), we need a fish expert here.

Re:Unusual Identification Request - 2008/03/27 02:54 Hi Rebel Tern,
I see the original post was dated 12/09/2006 so I assume the original webpage has expired since then. I`ve even tried accessing it direct from Address Bar on Internet Explorer and again got the same response; Not Available!!!
Seems silly to leave such old posts on the forum??
