can someone please tell me what it was - 2007/08/06 15:43 hi all, am new to this. i live in south shields near newcastle and seen a bird in my garden i cant identify. it was small around a grest tit size, it had a lot of red around its head, with a very dark back and yellow sides. what is it and is it normal for my part of the country. if you could let me know i would be very pleased thanks

Re:can someone please tell me what it was - 2007/09/08 16:01 I would prob go for Goldfinch too - however both sexes look alike so could have been male or female. You say the bird had a red head - on a goldfinch its around the beak area. There are other birds with red heads (ie the top bit) but not with the yellow wing colour you describe. HAve a look on the RSPB website to check.
