Distinctive song... - 2008/02/18 23:51 We have a bird that we can't spot, but hear it all the time at the moment, I wondered if someone could ID it from the sound. It is is a very sharp, clear three-note song, usually repeated twice, then a pause, then repeated. Any ideas?

Re:Distinctive song... - 2008/02/19 03:07 It's difficult to say without actually hearing the call but it may be Great Tit, the normal song is described as "tea-cha, tea-cha" but they also have a three syllable version usualy described as "ti-ti-ta, ti-ti-ta". They can be quite variable, I can't think off hand anything else it likely to be

Hope this helps, John

Re:Distinctive song... - 2008/02/19 04:10 Thanks John, had heard examples of the Great Tit song on a couple of birding sites on the web and though the tone is about right, it is not the same song, which is a repetition of three closely-pitched notes over and over.
I'll maybe try to record it and post it up here.
Thanks.

Re:Distinctive song... - 2008/02/20 05:35 Do you have a stream or river next to you, maybe a Grey Wagtail?
Just wracking my brain at the moment, if you could record it that would be great

Cheers, John
