Mobile Phone Cameras - 2005/12/15 06:14 Want photos to go with your sightings but don't know what to buy thats inexpensive and lightweight? If your fortunate to own a mobile phone with camera try to take a photo threw your scope or binnoculars, you'll be surprised at the results. The secret is to have no shake in either for a clear shot. If you haven't got a mobile, you can buy a cheap light camera and use it the same way, but it's best to purchase a non-zoom camera for a closer fit. Give it a go for some good snap shots for your own personal sightings list.

Personally, I'm fascinated to see what quality can be achieved with a minimum budget. If you do post a sample, please tell us what camera mobile phone it is and what telescope was used.

Binoculars sounds the most difficult and fiddly.

Depending on your results the whisky idea might be a sound one!

I hope to have better results when I go next week. This time I will remember to take my 'phone with me!!
It was probably not a good day for it anyway. We got saturated at the Leg O' Mutton (Lonsdale Road) and then again at WWT Barnes! Awfulweather and would probably not had much of a chance for good results. Wish that I had remembered the hip flask as well! I will keep you informed!

Hi,

Just joined and I was browsing the forum when I saw this thread.

I have had a go at using my mobile through my bins and my scope with mixed results. I have also upgraded my phone which now doesn't have an auto focus option that renders most images useless.
I have attached a shot of what I think is a redshank using my mobile and bins last year.

It works...sort of.
