Re:Unidentified flock 150+ - 2008/02/27 22:03 At this time of year Curlews are starting to move northwards and will start feeding inland as a prelude to dispersing to their breeding grounds (which can be many miles from the coast). Some birds will fly fair distances at high tide to feed on damp farmland before returning to the coast, these birds I'm sure are making pre-dispersal feeding flights on their way north, possibly birds that are more used to feeding inland (in the clyde area we have a group of 100+ that winter on flooded fields near Motherwell that are well inland, they stay all winter before they disperse for the summer)

Cheers, John
