The bird I see every day by the M25? - 2006/07/11 11:22 I travel on the M25 everyday and pretty much every day I see a large bird (or birds) sitting in a tree just by the motorway. I can't work out what they are and it's driving me mad.

The tree is close to J10 on the clockwise side of the motorway. It's next to a river and 3 tall pine / poplar trees.

On my way home last summer 99% of the time there was a cormorant sitting there, but the birds there this year seem to be something different.

It's hard to give an accurate description as I'm usually travelling at speed and only get a glance, but if anyone else has seen these birds and know what they are please put me out of my misery.

Re:The bird I see every day by the M25? - 2006/07/13 10:09 Normally it is a cormorant you are seeing, I pass by the same bit every day as well.

Although the last couple of days yesterday there was nothing and this morning I passed by quickly but I thought it was a magpie on that spot.

Last Wednesday I wondered about the cormorant high in the tree (the dead one) with thunderstorms approaching. It survived as it was there on Friday evening.

Re:The bird I see every day by the M25? - 2006/07/20 10:58 Thanks so much for replying!!!

Have you also seen the large bird with a white front that is sometimes there? I think it may be brown in colour, but again it's hard to tell when passing at speed. I've been told it could be a juvenile cormorant, but I'm not too sure.

There's not been anything sitting there for the last few days though, I guess it must be too hot. Hopefully they'll be back when it cools down a bit or my journey home will become very dull!

Re:The bird I see every day by the M25? - 2006/07/21 11:44 What time do you go through?

I travel clockwise about 6.30 am. The cormorant has been there on the same twig every day this week at that time. Earlier in the week I thought there might have been a c. buzzard about 100 metres before his perch but, as you know, you can't just stop and look.

The cormorant has not been there this week when I've been coming back in the evening - about 6.00 pm.

Re:The bird I see every day by the M25? - 2006/07/27 11:23 I travel the other way. Anti-clockwise around 7.20 am and then back clock-wise anytime between 5.30 and 7pm.

I saw the cormorant the other morning though I don't usually get chance to look in the mornings (too much traffic!).

As you say there's been nothing there in the evenings for a whle now. I'll have to keep an eye out for the buzzard though - thanks for that.

Re:The bird I see every day by the M25? - 2006/07/27 20:32 This sounds like one place on the M25 where you could really do with a long traffic jam!

I wouldn't normally associate the M25 with birding hotspots, which makes this topic fascinating.

Keep us posted!
