Re:Peregrine Falcons - 2006/05/12 07:27
Hi Falcon Boy
There are now quite a number of pairs in Kent.
Most are in areas that could not be reached by egg collectors.
I would recommend the following:
1) Littlebrook Power Station by the Darford Tunnel 2) The old power station buildings by Pegwell near Sandwich. 3) The 'water tower' at Dungeness which is best viewed from the new hide on the old ARC pits.
I see from the RSPB website that they have opened their Peregrine nest watchpoint at Chichester Cathedral again this year.
These events are normally excellent, allowing large numbers of people to see sought-after species through telescopes with experts on hand to help visitors out.
I visited a similar event in Gloucestershire a few weeks ago and can thoroughly recommend them.
Chichester is easily accessible by road or rail, so if you would like a very good (guaranteed?) chance to see Peregrines then have a look at the RSPB website and see if you can get along there.
According to the website the watchpoint is open daily but the telescopes won't be there until 10th June - it seems the views will only be by webcam until then.
It might be worth ringing the RSPB for full details to avoid disappointment.
I hope you see them they are fantastic birds.
Bye
Rob
