Re:Spotting Scopes VS Binoculars - 2006/12/15 20:34 Hiya Carl!
Welcome! I am fairly new to 'birding' as well, but can say that if I could afford a good 'scope I would definitely get one. I say this because I go regularly to WWT Barnes and the 'regulars' there are always willing to help a 'newbie' out by letting us have a quick shuftie through their 'scopes. The whole experience is entirely different, even when looking through my mates, far superior, bins.Having said that, the 'regulars' always have bins to look around the site generally to find stuff before they focus their 'scopes on it!. Most of the sites that I go to though are of a size where I don't really need a 'scope although I would still prefer to have one!
Whatever you choose, and if you can afford both, get them, enjoy your 'birding'.
Can I wish you and yours a very Happy Christmas!

All the very best,
Reg
