Black grousey thing - 2008/04/12 19:53 [img] I took this photo of a blackish grousey looking thing at the RSPB Mersehead reserve.

Stupid question, maybe, but is it a Black Grouse?

It is the right size and colour, with a flash of red on the head, but the tail doesn't look like I expected.

The bird in the image is a male Pheasant, they are occasionaly very dark (almost black) and can appear very different from normal. The long pointed tail is always a good ID feature
